ZSI – Centre for Social Innovation

A transdisciplinary social science research institute

The Zentrum für Soziale Innovation (Centre for Social Innovation), ZSI in short, is a transdisciplinary social science research institute. The Technology and Knowledge Unit (T&W) focuses its research and development activities on the potentials and limitations of emerging technologies and their diffusion in technologically mediated settings for the benefits of society. A core activity of T&W is the impact evaluation of socio-technical projects and their interactions with social innovations. Since 2011 T&W researchers have also been involved in studying and implementing citizen science activities; since 2017 they have studied and promoted the transition towards a more sustainable production, consumption and lifestyle in several bioeconomy projects. Participatory and transdisciplinary research methods and open science are key tools of the methodological repertoire of this interdisciplinary group.

As Road-STEAMer draws to a close in summer 2025, we are taking this opportunity to reflect on what we’ve accomplished, and we need your input to do so.
