On Friday 21 March, Road-STEAMer had a joint workshop with its “sister projects” The SEER and Sense.STEAM.

All three projects are funded under the same call, and share the objective to develop complementary roadmaps for STE(A)M education in Europe. Inter-project coordination has been ongoing for the past couple of years, but now that the projects are nearing completion, it was possible to have a broader conversation on results to date, and to compare the three developing roadmaps.

The 3-hour participatory workshop was facilitated by the Road-STEAMer team. In the first part of the meeting, each project had the opportunity to present the key elements of their roadmaps to members of the other projects’ consortia, and receive feedback both verbally and on a dedicated online canva. While actively listening to the presentations, attendees were invited to reflect and take notes on common elements and main differences among the projects. Then, the last part of the meeting was dedicated to collectively make sense of the different positionings of the three projects (for instance in terms of main audiences, methodologies, and levels of analysis), and to identify common themes such as shared recommendations and priority areas.

While it was certainly a very intense session, it also resulted in better mutual understanding of each other’s work and progress so far. Cross-project collaboration will continue over the coming months to ensure that the three roadmaps for advancing STEAM education across Europe – which will be presented at a joint event over the summer – are coherent and complementary.
